BIM for Bridge maintenance and operation in Korea With the growing deterioration of bridge structures in traffic networks, there is an urgent need for a reliable method to assess and predict bridge performance using diverse data sources. While Building Information Modeling (BIM) is increasingly implemented in new bridge construction projects, its potential to establish a comprehensive maintenance baseline by integrating data from design to construction remains underutilized. Existing bridge management systems (BMS) still rely on fragmented, document-oriented information, limiting effective maintenance and decision-making. In this webinar, Dr. Shim, a leading expert in BIM for bridge design and maintenance, will introduce Korea’s BIM-based BMS, highlighting innovative approaches for both new and existing bridges. The session will explore how as-built models can seamlessly deliver data to BMS for new bridges, as well as how a stand-alone bridge maintenance system developed by a highway agency enables structured data accumulation for inspection and repair records.
